MSD to construct a second manufacturing facility at existing site in Carlow with the creation of 170 new jobs

It was great to see MSD announce further investment in Ireland this October with the announcement that the company will construct a second manufacturing facility at its existing site in Carlow, which will lead to the creation of 170 new jobs.  The new facility will focus on the production of vaccines and biologics and there will also be an expansion of warehouse and laboratory services at the site. This news follows earlier announcements by MSD in Ireland.

In May last year the company confirmed it will create 330 new jobs and invest €280 million in its manufacturing facilities in Carlow and Cork, and in February of 2018 that 350 new biotech jobs will be created as part of a new facility called MSD Biotech in Dublin.  Full Article >>

Edwards Lifesciences announces National Technology Park, Castletroy, Limerick

It will be a permanent site of new operations facility to support its global supply network

Major investment is set for Limerick as Edwards Life sciences announce the National Technology Park, Castletroy, will be the location of its new permanent facility which is expected to manufacture delivery components for its transcatheter heart valve therapies. Investment in the project is expected to amount to approx. €80 million and the purpose-built manufacturing facility is due to be complete by 2021. Once the facility is fully operational 600 jobs are set to be created in roles ranging from leadership opportunities, planning, quality control, assembly, engineering and finance. Full Article >>

50 R & D jobs set for Dublin as APC expands facilities in Cherrywood

APC, an Irish research and development company has announced the completion of a €10 million investment expanding the research facilities at its global headquarters in Cherrywood, Co Dublin. Within this investment, which includes a new biotech facility, is a requirement for up to 50 new highly skilled R&D positions, supporting the development of new emerging medicines in various therapeutic areas. Currently APC is working on 20+ medicines for a variety of cancers, respiratory diseases, Alzheimer’s and HIV.  Full Article >>

Chanelle Group to create 350 jobs in Galway with €86m investment

Irish owned company Chanelle Group is to create 350 Pharma jobs at its headquarters in Loughrea, County Galway, with an €86m investment. The jobs were announced following the opening of a new €10m manufacturing plant in Loughrea.  The facility is Europe’s first dedicated Spot On (a topical treatment used to protect dogs and cats against harmful parasites) manufacturing plant built to European and US quality standards. The 350 new positions are set to be created over the next 5 years. The group also announced plans for construction of a new €11 million facility to commence in 2019 for the manufacture of liquid and paste medicinal products for the US market. Full Article >>

Depuy Synthes, Cork ranked by World Economic Forum among best globally due to Internet of Things

Medical device manufacturing facility, Depuy Synthes has been named as one of the top nine most advanced factories in the world due to its use of internet of things (IoT) technology.

The facility in Ringaskiddy, County Cork produces replacement hip and knee joints and received the ranking for using the technology to make old machines talk to one another. This has resulted in a 10% reduction in operating costs, and a 5% drop in machine downtime. A great achievement for the facility as they were selected from an initial list of more than 1,000 manufacturing companies. Full Article >>
