Just over twelve months ago Pfizer acquired Hospira Inc for $16b, which included Hospira’s 25,000 square-foot facility located in Sligo, with approximately 60 employees. The Sligo location specialises in device manufacturing, service and repair medication infusion systems and provide international technical support.
Hospira manufactures injectable drugs and infusion technologies ( includes IV pumps, solutions, and devices) and biotech-drug knockoffs called biosimilars. When Pfizer bought Hospira last year, it was clear that Pfizer was mainly interested in the smaller competitor’s biosimilars business and would probably put the medical-devices arm up for sale.
It was announced last week that Pfizer would sell the Hospira infusion technology division to ICU Medical Inc of San Clemente, California a specialist Medical device company in the infusion market.
